LESSON 4: Bridging the Generation Gap
The older generation often feels there is a generation gap between them and the younger generation. This is apparent simple things like the manner of dressing, socializing, more intimate relationships like friendship and marrying. In the field of education, a huge generation gap also exists and it will continue to widen unless some changes are adopted at the proper time. In peasant third world continues where schools don’t have the technology facilities, it is understandable that transition to digital education may take time. But given the rapid emergence of digital technology (ICT), there is the need to prepare for bridging the digital gap in society. First, we need to understand the potentials of ICT:
- The new network of instantaneous communication is global, overcoming borders between countries and continents.
- Much of what elders believe may not be applicable anymore to the new generations.
- Alvin Toffler’s book, Future Shock, shows how the information age has begun to create many cultural changes.
Since the new generations are expected to face a future professionalism challenge of a digital world ahead of them, technology-supported skills need to be taught in schools today, or else schools will become a white elephant. If schools fail to respond to emergent changes and needs, new learners may lose appreciation of the educational system, and drop out of school, as surveys show an increasing drop-out rate every year.
Reflection
The main lasting in this world is change; no one can stop or hold back a thing to develop. Regardless of some negative impacts still human keep on discovering and concoct something that could make life less demanding and agreeable. For me, I grasped changes with impediments for I realize that everything has its own time and reason. My outline of this lesson contribute the much on the development of my insight and intelligence particularly on the ICT which help me secure information and data in the most straightforward way. I adapted so much utilizing innovation whenever anyplace. I adapted likewise the estimation of innovation and its one as I contrasted it with experience. It made me understand the significance and its application utilizing creative procedures.
Application
As a future teachers, facilitators we have to scaffold those old ones to incorporate the computerized advances that is inclining and is more valuable and can make their work simple, and infrequently can give them joy, for diversion and this advanced innovations can mend their yearning to go home to their friends and family and so on . And also the more youthful ones, despite the fact that we are more jumped at the chance to utilize the cutting edge gadgets for its points of interest. We must recognize what the starting point of that certain gadget is, and some of those gadgets are helpful too these days… We must contemplate into our brains that since the new eras are relied upon to face a future expert test of an advanced world in front of us, innovation upheld abilities should be taught in schools today, or else schools will turn into a white elephant.
